What is absolute poverty?
Set standard which is the same in all countries - does not change over time
E.g. living on less than £X per day
What is relative poverty?
A standard which is defined in terms of the standard in which an individual lives and which therefore differs between countries over time
E.g. living on less than X% of the average UK income
What is childhood poverty?
When a child lives within a household with an income below 60% of the UK’s average
What is meant by poverty?
Where people lack many of the opportunities that are available to the average citizen
What is social exclusion?
Relating to the alienation or disenfranchisement of certain people within society
