Link reaction and Krebs cycle Flashcards
1
Q
WHere does Links occur
A
Mitochondrial matrix
2
Q
What happens during Link reaction
A
Pyruvate oxidised and decarboxylated into acetate
-C02 and reduced NAD produced
Acetate combine with Coenzyme A= Acetyl CoA
Per glucose molecule= 2x acetyl coA , 2x CO2 and 2x reduced NAD produced
3
Q
Krebs Cycle where it occurs
A
Mitochondrial matrix
4
Q
Process of Krebs
A
Acetyl CoA reacts with 4C molecule producing a 6C molecule that enters the Krebs cycle
CoA is released
6Cā>5Cā>4C molecule (regenerated) through a series of redox reactions.
Decarboxylation and dehydrogenation
C02 removed
Coenzymes NAD and FAD reduced
ATP produced by substrate level phosphorylation
