Glycolysis Flashcards
where happens?
Cytoplasm
Process of Glycolysis
Phosphorylation of glucose to glucose phosphate (using the inorganic phosphate from ATP)
Hydrolysed to 2X Triose Phosphates
2X triose phosphates oxidised to 2X pyruvate
-2 NAD reduced
-4 ATP regenerated
4 gained -2 used = net production of 2 ATP
Process of glycolysis if no O2 present (anaerobic respiration)
Pyruvate converted into lactate (in animals) and ethanol (plants, yeasts)
Oxidising reduced NAD—-> Nad regenerated
So glycolysis can continue which needs NAD
After glycolysis if O2 is present
Pyruvate actively transported into the mitochondrial matrix
Stages of Aerobic respiration
1) Glycolysis
2) Link reaction
3) Krebs cycle
4) Oxidative phosphorylation
