Linear Kinematics Applications Flashcards
Abduction
the movement of a limb moving away from the midline of the body
Adduction
the movement of a limb moving towards the midline of the body
Anterioposterior Axis
(AKA Sagittal Plane) splits the body into posterior and anterior sections
Calibration
comparison and adjustment of measurement values to be within a certain range of accuracy
Extension
a straightening movement that increases the angle between body parts
Longitudinal axis
Superior and Inferior relationship
Mediolateral axis
AKA frontal or coronal axis
Roll vs. Pitch. vs Yaw
regarding an aircraft in flight
Roll: rotation of the aircraft about an axis running nose to tail
Pitch: nose rotating up or down about an axis running wing to wing
Yaw: rotation left or right about an axis running up and down
What are the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative biomechanical analysis?
- results are limited as they provide numerical descriptions rather than detailed narrative and generally provide less elaborate accounts of human perception
- they allow for a broader study, involving a greater number of subjects and allow numerical accuracy
Anatomical Reference Position
standing erect, facing forward, feet together and arms at the side with the palms facing forward
Why would you choose to analyze movement using a fixed reference as opposed to a moving reference
By using a fixed reference point, it is easier to compare changes in the system. Concerning anatomical position, it is a universal fixed reference point for everyone to free back to when comparing changes
What types of movements occur in the sagittal plane?
Flexion, extension, hyper extension
