Limits on species distributions Flashcards

1
Q

Why is the Kangaroo not in the centre of Australia and the edges of Australia

A

Dispersal limitations - urban areas limits, ocean limits
Biotic - Competition between humans and other animals
Abiotic - Not in the centre due to it being the hottest area, they arent outside of australia because they cannot swim elsewhere.

Q

Facilitation / complex interactions

A

Presence of one species may accidentally enable others presence(Eco system engineers such as beavers).
Sometimes this may happen through complex chains of interactions
