Heat powdered limestone in a kiln with powdered clay
How do you make mortar?
Mix sand and water with cement
How do you make concrete?
Mix cement with sand and aggregate
What are the advantages of limestone quarrying?
Provides jobs, better transport links, neutralises acidic soil and water, puts money into the local economy and creates new habitats
What are the disadvantages of limestone quarrying?
Destroys the landscape, lots of noise pollution, dust covers landscape, destroys habitat and more traffic
What are the advantages of limestone products?
They are widely available, cheap, hard-wearing, they don’t rot or corrode and they are fire-resistant
What are the disadvantages of limestone products?
They are ugly and crack easily
