Q

Corticosteroids

A

Any o the hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex, either in natural or synthetic. These drugs will influence or control CHO and protein metabolism, the maintenance of serum glucose levels, electrolyte or water balance, function of respiratory cardiac and skeletal muscle

Q

Nonsedating antihistamine

A

newer meds that work peripherally(doesnt cross blood-brain barrier of CNS) and block the actions of histamine

Q

What is histamine involved in?

Q

There are 2 types of histamine receptors, tell me what they are.

A

H1: Smooth muscle contraction, dilation of caps,
H2: raise HR, and raise gastric secretion

12
Q

So what will a high amount of histamine do to the body?

A

It will create an allergic reaction by constriction of smooth muscle in stomach and lungs, increase body secretions, vasodilate and increase capillary permeability resulting in movement of fluids out of blood vessels and into tissue causing low bp and edema

13
Q

Wht is the relationship of antihistamines and histamines?

A

Antihistamines compete with histamine in attaching to receptors on the cell. When antihistamine attaches it revents histamine from doing its thang

16
Q

What is the chief complaint of antihistamines? What is the good news about this?

A

They usually cause drowsiness. Great news is that newer drugs dont cross the blood-brain barrier so there is no CNS depression oh happy days.

17
Q

Why are nasal decongestants used?

A

for their ability to shrink engorged nasal mucous membranes and relieves nasal stuffiness

18
Q

How do Andrenergic drugs act as nasal decongestant?

A

they will constrict the small arterioles that supply the structures of the upper resp tract

19
Q

What antitussives used for?

A

dey stop da cough just to make it more comfortable for the pt.

20
Q

Which two drugs are used as antitussives?

A

Although all opioid drugs have antitussive effects, only codeine and hydrocodone are used as antitussives.

21
Q

What is the indication for antitussive drugs?

A

for nonproductive coughs and for harmful coughs like after a hernia surgery or some shit like that.

Sorry im drunk….

22
Q

emphysema….

A

is a condition of the lungs that is an enlargement of the air spaces distal to the bronchioles

23
Q

Type; Trade names; Administration routes for:

Albuterol

A

it is a beta2 with trade name of Proventil, and ventolin. It can be taken PO and inhalation

24
Q

The beta agonists stimulate what? Which is most specific for lungs?

A

Beta agonists stimulate beta1 and beta2 receptors. Beta2 agonists like; albuterol, formoterol aremost specific for lungs.
