Lights Flashcards
Approximately how many minutes should you leave a strobe system in the off position prior to maintenance?
5 Minutes
What types of bulbs are sensitive to oil or grease?
Halogen and Strobe Light Bulbs
What are the two basic styles of Anti-Collision Light?
Rotating beacons and Solid State Strobe Light.
What filament type is used in a strobe light system and what voltage does it require?
Xenon and 400 Volts.
How does a strobe light power supply create 400 volts?
By using a capacitor charging system.
Is there any order to how the strobe lights flash?
They are coordinated using a synchronisation connection between the power supply units.
What is an Incandescent Light?
They use a small coil of wire (filament) that glows white when a current flows through it.
How does an Electro Luminescent Light work?
The EL panel contains a fluorescent paste sandwiched between two layers of plastic. This paste glows when an AC voltage is applied to the panel.
How do fluorescent Light work?
A gas filled tube that glows when a high AC voltage is applied to heated electrodes at each end, the electrodes emit electrons.
What is the advantage of fluorescent lamps over incandescent lamps?
They are more efficient but they require the use of ballast transformers and AC voltage.
How long is the Emergency Lighting power for electrical batteries made to last?
15 Minutes
Other than the batteries what else can power the emergency lights?
LH or RH emergency bus
How is the Floor Proximity Escape Path Lighting provided with power?
Using the same battery power supply units supplies for the emergency lights. Static inverters supply 115v 400Hz to the system.
What is an advantage of Electro Luminescence strips?
It eliminates the need for bulbs, sockets, diffusers so with nothing to break can withstand extreme shock, vibration and high or low temps.
