How do you specifiy the degree of zoom on the ‘one click’ action?

A

open pic in loupe - use CTRL + mouse wheel to set the degree of zoom that you want to be the default. Then this setting is sticky until you next change it. So move on to the next pic and click once, the same zoom factor will be in play.

19
Q

what’s the main advantage of using the hot keys to code/label your pics?

A

you can apply to photos when reviewing in full screen.

This is great for quickly evaluating a folder of gig pics. I can code everything up super quickly. Perhaps do a couple of runs to re-evaluate after my first pass and having the overview of all the pics in mind.

i.e. u don’t need to use up screen space to show the attribute bar whilst reviewing and labelling

20
Q

Once you have flagged your rejects, then how do you delete?

A

> PHOTO> delete rejected photos

21
Q

How does LR keep track of your images? (4 points, #1 being the most important)

A

By arranging your images in to a catalog, which includes information:

  1. File location
  2. Previews
  3. Adjustments
  4. Metadata inc star ratings

FL-PAM.

22
Q

‘*’ to darken the screen (‘lights out mode’), again to go pitch black so you can study your pic without distraction.

If using a double screen setup, why can this mode be better than simply going full screen with your pic?

A

‘L’

If you just go full screen with your pic, it will mean your other screen is still bright and a distraction.

With ‘lights out mode’ LR darkens your 2nd screen as well as the screen your viewing the pics on, so you can cut out glare and focus on the task at hand - very good.

23
Q

If you create edits from raws in PS and create a folder in explorer, you can then ‘sync’ the folder in LR so that the app sees the new folder and pics. How?

A

> RC folder>synchronize folder

24
Q

Which hot key to deselect all photos?

A

Ctrl + D

Of course it’s Ctrl first - when you select multiples you do this using Ctrl and click - as you would in windows apps too.

25
Q

Hot key to toggle the ‘tool’ bar?
And what/where is the ‘tool’ bar?
What can it otherwise be known as?

A

‘t’
It’s below the main view part of the screen; it holds various functions:
1. view modes
2. attributes

Aka: the attribute bar (or it could be the View and Review bar, as the view modes are view options and reviewing usually involves tagging attributes such as flags and stars.)

(NOTE: Vis. For attribute options, the US flag: Flag options Stars Colour labels)

26
Q

How can you tell a pic has associated KWs?

A

A KW icon/tag show in the BR of the pic in the grid (providing you have this info view switch on).

27
Q

How do you enter KWs for images? (5)

A

Select one more more photos you want to apply KWs too.

Go to the ‘keywording’ section>
Either:
1. Keyword tags box:
Manually enter, separate by comma – don’t have to leave a space, either or, both seem to work.

This tells LR that any kw with more than one word are defined with commas before and after.

LR autocomplete existing KW list entries. And adds new KWs to the list.

  1. Use the ‘Suggestions’ box.
  2. Find your KWs in the KW list>select all the entries u wish to apply - they are then applied to your pre-selected photos. (a many to many option)
  3. Select your images then drag on to a KW in your KW list. (a many to one option)
  4. If you want to apply a new KW i.e. it’s not already in your KW list, then with your image(s) selected, press the ‘+’ icon at the top of the KW list panel. This gives you options to add synonyms and other attributes to the new KW.
28
Q

You can collapse the left, right and bottom panels by using the **.

A

triangles

29
Q

How do you filter a folder for video?

A

On the Filter Bar>

  1. Select ‘metadata’
  2. On left hand column header click on ‘date’ – choose ‘file type’ instead
30
Q

How to rename files in an existing location?

A
  1. Select all files to rename

2. Right panel>metadata>file name>select your syntax

31
Q

If you want to change a child keyword into a top-level keyword in a KW hierarchy list how do you do it?

A

Drag and drop the keyword between existing top-level level keywords instead. As you drag, a thin blue/dark grey line appears.

NB: Don’t worry about dropping it in the right place in the list, as the Keyword List is automatically set to alpha-numeric sort.

32
Q

Where is the icon to go to dual screen mode?

A

In the film strip, far left.

NOT on the tool bar.

33
Q

wherever you are in Lightroom, even if you are in a module other than the library, press * , to return to the Library’s Grid view

A

G

34
Q

Problem: i exported some edits to a new folder (that i created via the export box) but it didn’t show in the catalog folder structure in LR, why?

A

In the Export dialog there is a check box to “Add to this catalog” and the option, at the top, to place the exported image in the original folder or some other folder.

35
Q

In Lightroom Classic, you don’t save photos in the traditional sense. Instead, you ***** photos.
You can export photos in various file formats suitable for a wide range of uses.

A

export

36
Q

What are the ‘view modes’ in the tool bar?

A

These modes dictate how you view and review images in the central panel>
Grid/ Loupe/ Compare/ Survey and People

37
Q

How do u show the ‘filter’ bar if not shown?

A

Either:

a. View>Show filter bar OR
b. \ (back-slash!) - this toggles the filter bar between: show/hide

Mnemonic: slash the photos back to only the ones I want to see

38
Q

Why does Adobe call the single image view ‘Loupe’?

A

It comes from the original meaning of Loupe:
any of several varieties of magnifying glasses, used by jewelers and watchmakers, of from 2 to 20 power and intended to fit in the eye socket, to be attached to spectacles, or to be held in the hand.

39
Q

What are the 4 filter options for the ‘library filter’ that sits on the top of the view and review panel?

Give the main fields I use for each filter option.

How can you show (and use) more than one filter at the same time?

A

text - attribute - metadata - none ( T.A.M. )

Text: KW, filename, title, KW
Attribute: flag, rating, colour label & kind (master photos, virutal copy & video)
Metadata: date, file type

CTRL + click on consecutive filter menu options e.g. text then attribute to show both filters at same time

40
Q

You can order pics in grid by dragging.

How do you do this?

And why is this helpful?

A
  1. You do it via the ‘filmstrip’ - and you can do it via the ‘grid’ (i didn’t think you could, but just tried it and it works). Click in middle of image and drag. For a group, select all, click on one, and drag. NOTE: the pic don’t need to be next to each other, you can select non consecutive pics and move them as a group.
  2. a) To compare in order to review/ set attributes/ delete.
    b) To rationalize and organize the group of pics with a view to processing in sub-groups and potentially moving to different collections.

I.e. to speed up workflow and facilitate batch process.

41
Q
The main benefit of Lightroom’s Library module is that it gives you the tools you need to get organised
and speed up your ******** .

The end result is that you can spend
more time in the **** module –
the place where you creatively process your photos.

A

workflow

Develop

42
Q

What is the short cut for:

  1. hiding the left and right side panel controls
  2. hiding all of the left and right control panels AND top filter bar so you can just review the library pics without distraction, and add attributes from the tool bar.
A
  1. tab key
  2. shift + tab key

Good to open the filmstrip so you know where you are in the folder

43
Q

You can accelerate the review process by using the ‘auto-advance’ function!
How does it work?

A

Press the caps lock and now when you flag (P) or unflag (U) a photo LR will automatically move to the next image (it applies to all the attribute keys i.e. colour, star ratings too…).

So you can extremely quickly review your pics.

Chris Orwig keeps an index of each hand on the P and U and whizzes through pics.

(Make sure you remember to turn off the caps lock when finished as this could interfere with other functions).

If you make a mistake just use the arrow keys to go backwards.

44
Q

Why may wish to order the pics in grid? (3)

A

Ordering the pics in grid.
You may want to order your pics to:
1. better review, rationalise and process pics;
2. prepare the sequence of shots for a LR slide show.
3. The order is reflected in renaming on export with the sequence variable; e.g. if you want all B+W versions of your export batch to be named sequentially last, i.e. with numbers great than the colour ones coming before, then re-order.

45
Q

In what situations (2) can you not order pics using the filmstrip?

A
  1. if you are in a folder where there are images in a subfolder below it which are also visible.

You can see if this is likely if you open the fly-out for the folder in the Folders panel in the library.

If there is another folder the one you are working on, chances are that the images in the subfolder are included in the filmstrip and so you cannot arrange the images by dragging them into position if this is the case.

To workaround this limitation you
can remove the photos in the
subfolder from view – this just
removes them from the grid and
filmstrip and not from Lightroom or
your disk. To do this, click Library in
the menu and disable the Include
Photos from Subfolders option
With this disabled, you can now
move images by dragging and
dropping them into position.
  1. you can not order in a smart collection.
46
Q

Once you have arranged the images as you want them to appear, Lightroom stores your ordering so it is as accessible as, for example, any other sort order options for that folder or collection.

So, you can return to your preferred sort order at any time by selecting ** *** from the Sorting menu - where do you find this?

A

Custom order

Turn on the ‘sorting’ menu via the Attribute Tool Bar drop down menu, far right of tool bar.

47
Q

How do you move around an image? (2)

as opposed to moving an image around

A
  1. You could use the navigator to focus on parts of an image - see the zoom factor first so that the main screen isn’t showing everything.
  2. Or press and hold the space bar, to zoom in, then use mouse to move around,

Importantly the latter works whilst in Develop module with an active control, i.e. in the middle of applying an effect
