what is the difference between LED and incandescent lights and what type of things do you need to power them?
LED lights offer more control over color and intensity while using less power, whereas incandescent lights provide warmer, more natural light but consume more energy. LEDs typically require a DMX driver or controller, while incandescent lights run directly on dimmers for intensity control.
What are DMX cables?
DMX cables (digital multiplex) are used in lighting. The cable carries information or data that will communicate changes between lights and the source.
What is patching?
Patching describes the act of connecting different parts of the lighting or sound system together. Soft patching is a way of telling the console which lights you have rigged and which channel numbers you want to use to control them with. A patch sheet gives a list of which circuit or patch is plugged into which dimmer circuit.
what is DMX?
DMX lighting is a type of digital lighting control. DMX stands for Digital Multiplex and is a system that allows multiple fixtures to be affected by a single controller. DMX lighting uses a data signal to precisely control the intensity, colour, and other parameters of LED lights.
Describe the difference between a lighting fixture master and a lighting fixture that is a slave.
A lighting fixture that is a master is the first fixture in the daisy chain which receives the data of what to do. A lighting fixture that is a slave follows what the master lighting fixture does.
What is the difference between a lighting scene, a lighting state and a lighting chase?
A chase is a continuous series of scenes or states. A lighting scene is one particular showing on the stage.
What is the difference in shape between a spot and beam light?
A beam is a continuous beam of light, same diameter, while a spot starts off as thin/small shape and expands to emit a larger beam onto the stage.
What do we mostly use fresnel for in lighting?
To wash the stage with warm or soft light.
What are two things that you can use to shape the beam of a profile light?
Barn doors and shutters
Describe the process for dmx addressing a lighting fixture into a lighting console.
First connect the power to your controller and fixtures. Then on the first fixture, put the DMX-data cable in the DMX IN. Then start the daisy chain, by putting a DMX cable in the DMX OUT on the first fixture, and in the DMX IN on the second fixture. Set your fixtures to DMX channel mode and set an address.
