light dependent stage of photosynthesis Flashcards
what is photolysis
splitting by water where h+ ions and OH ions are split
what is photoinosiation
where chlorophyll molecules become ionised
why does photoinosation occour
because chlorophyll absorbs light meaning ions have more energy leaving the chlorophyll molecule
where does light enter
through photosystem 2
what is the electron path way in the light dependent stage
during the phosporolation of the h+ ions 2e-travels up through the reaction centre in phtosystem two where it gains a higher energy level down the cytochrome along the electron transfer chain up through photosystem 1 and helps bond NADP +H+ to form NADPH.
describe the H journey in the light dependent photosynthesis
through cheomosmosis the H+ goes down through the thylaokoid membrane and into the thylakoid lubem where it sets up a proton gradient and joins with the 2H+ and 1/2 O2 from the photolysis of H2O. it then travels toand up the atp synthase
how do H+ molecules get across the thaylakoid membrane
chemiosmosis
what occours in the ATP synthase
[prontons move down gradient through ATP synthase. the movement of protons drives conversion of adp to ATP so adp+p is converted to ATP by with the use of the H+
what does the movemne to fprotons in the atp synthase cause
movement of protons drives the conversion of adp into atp
what are the two products of the lightdependent reaction
NADPH and ATP
what stages does photoionisation occour
when the light enters the chloroplasts the it absorbs light energy cuaing elctrons to become excited leaving the reaction centre
