Light and Vision Flashcards
What is Myopia?
Short-sightedness
Images are focused in from of retina, distant objects are blurry CONCAVE
What is Hyperopia?
Long-sightedness
Images are focused behind retina causing blurring up close CONVEX
What are some causes of Blindness?
Corneal Opacity
Cataracts
Retinal Development
Visual Tract
What do Luminous Objects do?
Produce Light
What do Reflective Objects do?
Do not produce light, but reflect it form Luminous objects
What is Refraction?
The bending of light as it changes from one medium to the other. The light beam accelerates and bends away from normal when it enters a less dense medium
What is the difference between Polarised and Unpolarised?
Polarised - Electric + Magnetic fields oscillate in one direction
Unpolarised - Electromagnetic fields oscillate in all possible directions
What is Accomodation?
The ability of the eye to change the focal length of the lens by changing the curvature of the eye lens
What is Frequency?
Number of complete waves that pass a particular point in one second
What is Velocity?
How fast the wave is moving forwards
What is wave length?
Distance between two crests and dips on successive waves
