Light and Optics Flashcards
What is light?
Light is a form of energy you can see.
What is Incandescent light?
A filament that is heated until it glows.
What is florescent light?
An electrical lamp that produces light by a phosphor coating.
What is chemiluminescent light?
Light emitted from a chemical reaction.
What is bioluminescent light?
Light produced by a chemical reaction inside an animal.
What happens when light rays hit a transparent material?
All light rays pass right through.
What happens when light rays hit a translucent material?
Some light rays pass through.
What happens when light rays hit an opaque material?
No light rays pass through.
What is the law of reflection?
The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection.
What happens when light reflects off of a flat mirror?
It reflects back at the same angle in a straight line.
What happens when light reflects off of a convex mirror?
It reflects back as a larger image.
What happens when light reflects off of a concave mirror?
It reflects back as a flipped image.
What is the law of refraction?
When light travels into a more dense medium, it bends towards the normal line.
What is Phosphorescent light?
Phosphorescent light absorbs other light, and glows softly in the dark.
Bob is laying on his bed under a roof covered in glow-in-the-dark stars. What type of light are these emitting?
Phosphorescent.
