Light Flashcards
light/light energy
energy: a form of visible energy made up of waves that travel in a straight line. Light
energy can move through empty, airless space.
lens
a clear, curved piece of glass or plastic that bends light as it passes through. This can focus
or spread the light rays.
medium
a material that transmits or gives off light
prism
a glass bar that separates white light into the colors of the rainbow
shadow
a dark area caused by an object that blocks light
reflection
occurs when light or energy bounces off of the surface of an object
refraction
occurs when light or energy bends as it passes through different types of matter
transmission
occurs when light or energy passes through matter
absorption
to take in. Absorption happens when light is transformed into another form of energy
(heat) upon hitting a surface.
transparent
describes a material that allows all light rays to pass through
translucent
describes a material that allows some light to pass through
opaque
describes a material that does not allow light to pass through. You cannot see through
opaque matter.
