Ligaments and other underrated things Flashcards
The radial collateral ligament of the elbow resists….
Medial –> Lateral forces
(Varus forces)
The Ulnar Collateral Ligament resists what?
Lateral –> Medial forces
Valgus Forces
What does the Annular Ligament do?
Hold radial head inside of radial notch of ulna as it rotates during pro/sup
The Tommy John Surgery is for what ligament, and what is the usual cause?
Ulnar collateral ligament
overuse throwing
What motion stresses the Annular ligament?
Pronation
What does the Quadrate ligament do?
Attaches the Radial notch of the ulna to the Radial head
What does the Oblique cord do?
It runs from the Radial Notch of the Ulna to the Radial Tuberosity
It prevents inferior translation of the radius “Pulled elbow”
What structure connects the Anterior and Posterior radio-ulnar ligaments?
TFCC
Where does the TFCC attach?
Ulnar styloid process
The anterior and posterior Sternoclavicular ligaments do what?
Anterior= limits anterior translation of clavicle
Posterior= limits posterior translation of clavicle
What does the costo-clavicular ligament do?
Limits clavicular elevation and superior glide
What does the intra-clavicular ligament do?
Limits depression and downward glide
What does the conoid ligament of the coracoclavicular ligament do?
Prevents verticle displacement of clavicle
What does the Trapezoid ligament of the coracoclavicular ligament do?
Guides clavicle during rotation
Where is the clavicle most commonly fractured?
Central third
Also most common in children
What is a bankart injury?
Injury to anterior labrum of shoulder, makes dislocation/subluxation more likely in the future
Which carpal bone articulates with the base of the thumb
Trapezium
