Ligaments Flashcards
Anterior Longitudinal Ligament
> Runs from C2-Sacrum
Attaches to anterior aspects of the vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs
Limits extension
Posterior Longitudinal Ligament
> C2 - Sacrum
within the spinal column - attaches to posterior aspect of vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs
Limits flexion of spine
Ligamentum Flavum
> Between laminae of adjacent vertebrae
> Limits flexion and rotation
Supraspinous ligament
> C7-Sacrum
Attaches to tips of spinous processes (continuation of ligamentum nuchae in cervical spine)
Limits flexion
Interspinous ligament
> Between adjacent spinous processes
Runs throughout spine
Limits flexion
Intertransverse ligament
> Between adjacent transverse processes
less prominent in cervical spine where mostly muscular fibres
Limits side flexion
