Life Science Flashcards
What is cell theory?
Creates all living things
What is Prokaryotic?
A single cell organism lacking a neucleus
What is a eukaryotic?
A organism whose cell have a membrane bound neucleus
What is chloroplast?
Oval shaped structures in which the process of photosynthesis occurs this is only found in plants and some unicellular organisms
What is cell wall?
Rigid frame-like covering that surrounds the cell membrane and gives support and structure to the organism. Only happens in plants, fungi, and some unicellular organisms
What is a neucleus?
Neucleus is round and found near the middle of the cell. It is the control center that directs all activities of the cell
What is a vacuole?
Balloon like spaces within the cytoplasm that are storage for surplus food and other things the cell can’t use right now
What is a cell membrane?
Thin layer that surrounds the cell and protects the cells contents
What is mitochondria?
Sausage shaped energy producing organelles in the cell some cells have more information then others because of the amount of energy needed
What is endoplamic reticulum?
It’s like a highway where materials are transported through the cell or to the outside of the cell it is a folded membrane
What is a centriole?
Organelles found in animal cells that help organize microtubules which form the cells skeletal system
What is a plant cell?
What is an animal cell?
What is the cell cycle?
The series of phases the cells go through
1.) interphase
2.)prophase
3.) metaphase
4.) anaphase
5.) telophase
6.) interphase
What is mitosis?
Mitosis is the process of dividing nuclear material during the cell division the cells organelles and cytoplasm are shared by the newly created daughter cells
What is interphase?
It involves the cell growth
