  • Certain activities are traditionally linked to either males or females and this can lead to discrimination
  • More women are now involved in physical exercise and health and fitness activities

  • The rights of spectators and their safety
  • Laws related to aggression by players on and off the pitch
  • Laws to protect officials and referees
  • Duty of care - Referees must exert adequate control
  • Football banning orders- Stop football fans who are potential troublemakers from travelling abroad
  • Law involved in misuse of drugs, misconduct on and off the field and ‘match fixing’
  • Laws prevent discrimination on race and gender (rights of transsexuals- gender recognition Act)
  • Discrimination legislation in UK covers (race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion)
