all political parties banned that had NOT supported the coup

Falange Espanola Tradicionalista y de law - Junta de Ofensive National Sindicalista (FET-JONS) = amalgamation of all nationalist groups

19 April 1937: Decree of Unification = one party state - FET-JONS

under one party rule:
- strikes banned
- TU abolished

1938: Labour Charter = state run alternatives to TU established - increased powers to factory owners

+ repub land reforms abolished = power returned to landowners

severely disrupted by the war BUT shortages limited compared to repubs

Franco tight control
= generally regular supply of food/resources + stable economic conditions
= regular pay for soldiers, farmers, factory workers

less bombing of nationalist side (weak repub air support)

more stability at cost of many freedoms
