Why was the election historic?
It was a Liberal landslide where they won 401 seats.
What impact did war have on the result?
Boer war showed malnutrition in soldiers and Conservatives put prisoners in concentration camps. It was also long and costly.
What mistakes did the Conservatives make?
Conservatives didn’t have social reforms and Chamberlain’s tariff reform campaign made matters worse. Balfour was a bad leader and didn’t understand what the public wanted.
How did Labour support help the Liberal victory?
The Lib lab pact meant that Labour didn’t fight for non-Conservative seats and so Liberals won more seats. Labour also supported them in the Taff Vale case.
