Q

what is the lewis structure of KBr? explain why it’s like that.

A

[K]+
[Br+8 valence electrons around it]-

K is a metal with 1 valence electron and Br is a nonmetal with 7 electrons. in order bond, K has to lose its electron and give it to Br in order to become a molecule. they form an ionic bond and as a result, K becomes a cation (cuz it lost an electron) and Br becomes an anion (cuz it gained an electron)

Q

how many bonds does helium form? or how many electrons does helium need to form a stable molecule?

A

TRICK QUESTION! helium is a noble so it already has a full valence electron shell and therefore does not need to form any more bonds.
