Levers Flashcards
What is the rhyme you need to remember for levers
And what does it tell us?
1, 2, 3 F, R, E
The number tells us what class lever it is
The letter tells us what component is in the middle of the lever diagram
E.g. Fulcrum, Resistance/ Load, Effort
What is the
Effort
Load
Fulcrum
Effort- carried out by the muscle
Load- resistance/ weight
Fulcrum- the joint
What shapes are the fulcrum, load and effort?
Also where are they compared to the line?
Fulcrum- triangle (goes underneath)
Load- square (goes on top)
Effort- arrow (points up on 2nd and 3rd and down on 1st)
What is mechanical advantage?
What makes a lever better than another
-its advantages
What is the equation for mechanical advantage?
Effort arm / resistance arm
How do you find the effort and resistance arms on a lever diagram
Effort arm- draw from the effort to the fulcrum
Resistance arm- draw from the resistance/ load to the fulcrum
Which lever class has the highest mechanical advantage and why?
2nd class because… it has the highest MA
MA= Effort arm/ Resistance arm
2nd class levers have a higher effort arm than resistance arm.
What do you need to remember for the movements/ parts of body the levers are?
1st class levers- extension of elbow
2nd class levers- ankle movements
3rd class levers- everything else
