lever systems Flashcards
what is the lever arm
the bone moving around the point
what is the fulcrum
the joint where the leaver arm pivots
what is the effort
the force applied
what is the load
resistance against the pull of the muscles
what is a first class lever
load and effort are at opposite ends with fulcrum in the middle
what is a second class lever
the fulcrum and effort are at opposite ends with the load in the middle
what is a third class lever
the fulcrum and load are at opposite ends with the effort in the middle
what is mechanical advantage
effort arm (distance between fulcrum and effort) divided by weight
what are the benefits of a high mechanical advantage
lever can move high loads with little effort, however at low speeds and short distance
what is the sagittal plane
divides the body in to right and left sides
what is the transverse plane
divides the body in to top and bottom
what is the frontal plane
divides the body in to front and back
what is the sagittal axis
runs through front to back of body
what is the transverse axis
runs through left to right of body
what is the longitudinal axis
runs through body from top to bottom
what plane and axis is extension and flexion
sagittal plane and transverse axis
what plane and axis is abduction and adduction
frontal plane and sagittal axis
what plane and axis is rotation
transverse plane and longitudinal axis
