Levels of protein structure Flashcards
1
Q
Explain the primary structure of a protein
A
- amino acids bonded by peptide bonds is the primary structure
- The DNA of a cell determines what amino acids are in the sequence
- The sequence of amino acids can affect function of the protein
2
Q
Explain the secondary structure of a protein
A
-
3
Q
What is a peptide bond?
A
- It is a covalent bond
- hydroxyl is lost from a carboxylic group of one amino acid,
- a hydrogen atom is lost from an amine group of another amino acid
- Water is released because this is a condensation reaction
