Levels of Organization and Homeostasis Flashcards
Describe the difference between Human Anatomy and Human Physiology.
Human Anatomy is the study of Human structure, and Human Physiology is the study of the processes and organization of the Human body.
Explain why Homeostasis is regulated by Negative Feedback Loops, rather than Positive Feedback Loops.
Negative feedback loops are required to keep our bodies optimally functioning and are the focal point in the process to re-establishing homeostasis. Positive feedback loops are only induced during instances that aren’t regular for our bodies, such as child birth.
What is Regional Anatomy?
Regional Anatomy could be refered to as taking an area in the body (such as the shoulder), and talking about the structures involved in that region such as the bones that lie there, the muscles that overlie those bones, blood vessels, and nerves.
What is Systemic Anatomy?
System Anatomy could be reffered to when looking at specific body systems in isolation. This can include the digestive system, lymphatic system, and muscular system.
What is Gross Anatomy?
Gross Anatomy is the larger or macroscopic perspective of the whole human body, or an organ.
What is Microscopic Anatomy?
Anatomy that requires microscopic technology to observe and study.
Take the biological control system into consideration, how could you describe the task of a Sensor/Receptor?
The objective of a Sensor/Receptor is to detect change within variables of our body, and can be reffered to as an alarm that is fired off when something changes outside of the norm.
Taking the biological control system into consideration, how could you describe the task of the Control Centre?
It is the Control Centres task to assess/anylyze the information that the sensor has passed on and to determine an appropiate response to relay to the Effector.
Taking the biological control system into consideration, how could you describe the task of an Effector?
It is the Effectors role to carry out a response relayed by the Control Centre.
Briefly explain the biological systems process to return to Homeostasis.
What is a Negative Feedback Loop? provide an example.
What is a Positive Feedback Loop? provide an example.
Why is that we generally refer to Positive Feedback Loops as singular events?
