Lesson Preparation and Design Flashcards
How do you apply current research to teaching and learning? What recent research have you integrated into or considered using in your training?
By actively seeking out recent research findings in their field, critically analyze them, and then integrate relevant concepts and strategies into their lesson plans, assessments, and overall instructional design.
Are you familiar with any sources (literature, organizations, and people) that validate/invalidate popular myths and trends in learning?
The one major source that we use as facilitators is referring to what NCOLCoE has put out, in order to make sure that everyone is aligned with the period of instruction (POI)
What factors do you consider when backward planning your instruction?
Factors to consider are - desired learning outcomes, appropriate assessment methods to measure those outcomes, student prior knowledge, diverse learning needs, alignment of content and activities with learning goals, and the most effective instructional strategies to achieve the desired results.
What are two most important factors you would consider in preparing to deliver classroom instruction and why? Do you develop a back-up plan? In your opinion what is one of the major causes for having a back-up plan?
Understanding your students’ prior knowledge and learning needs and clearly defining the learning objectives for the lesson. Developing a back-up plan is essential because unexpected situations can arise during class, such as technical difficulties, student behavior issues, or a sudden need to adjust the lesson due to new information or student feedback. One major reason to have a backup plan is to manage unforeseen disruptions.
Name two things you do prior to teaching to prepare yourself.
carefully planning your lesson with clear learning objectives and organizing your classroom materials and space to facilitate the planned activities; essentially, creating a structured lesson plan and setting up the physical learning environment.
What is meant by audience analysis?
Audience analysis refers to the process of identifying and understanding the characteristics, needs, interests, and beliefs of a particular group of people in order to tailor your communication, message, or presentation to effectively reach them. Analysis, Understand, Demographics, Interest, Environment, Needs, Customize, Expectations.
What are groupthink mitigation techniques and why are they used?
strategies used to prevent a group from making poor decisions by conforming to a majority opinion, instead encouraging diverse perspectives, critical thinking, and open discussion where individuals feel comfortable voicing dissenting views; these techniques are used to avoid the negative consequences of groupthink, such as overlooking important information and making irrational choices due to the pressure to maintain group harmony.
Why is it important to ensure assessment learning levels are aligned with learning objectives?
it guarantees that the assessments accurately measure whether students have achieved the intended learning outcomes, providing a reliable evaluation of their progress and identifying any gaps in understanding, ultimately leading to more effective teaching and student learning.
Arranging the learning environment to enhance instruction is considered part of preparing for your lesson. Explain what this is and how it relates to instructional strategies and methods of instruction.
Actively designing the physical classroom space, including seating arrangements, materials placement, and overall layout, to optimize student learning and engagement, essentially creating a setting that facilitates the chosen instructional strategies and methods you plan to use in your lesson.
