Q

how do the nerves communicate with the brain(3 steps)?

A
  1. skin(thermoreceptors) sends electrical signals to the brain along the sensory nerves
  2. hypothalamus in brain decides how to react
    • sweat to lose heat
    • shiver to make heat
    • go red by dilating blood(lose heat)
    • move away from heat

Q

what if it’s a lot of heat

A

skin receptors to sensory neuron to spinal chord. meaning hand will move away before the brain has the information about the event

Q

what does brownian motion show us?

A

the water/air that suspends the pollen/dust must contain particles in constant random motion

Q

the kinetic theory of matter

A

everything is made of particles that are constantly moving.
when heat is applied, objects expand due to increased movement of the particles. –> more collisions so the particles in a solid move apart(SAME SIZE STILL) and become a liquid. more –> gas

Q

thermal expansion scaffold

A
  • as a substance is heated, particles in the substance vibrate faster and need to take up more space, causing the substance to expand(and if container can be pushed outward, will expand)
  • the ______ expand bc (heat source)
  • consequence e.g. good/bad/useful bc …
