Lesson Four - Let It Grow! Flashcards
Plants like all living things survive if they …
Have the right conditions. This allows them to grow, develop, reproduce and eventually die.
Three things most plants need to survive are…
soil (space), water and sunlight
Can plants move around to get their food?
No. Plants are dependent on the soil in which they grow. Soil contains a mixture of rocks, minerals, dead and living organisms, air and water. Plants use their roots to absorb water and nutrients.
Aboriginal Culture has used cool burns for centuries. What is it?
Cool burns are purpose lit fires used to burn the under growth and introduced plant species in the Australian bush. They help native plants survive and reduce ground fuel stores, limiting the impact of extreme summer bush fires.
Plants don’t just grow on land…
This is true. They also grow in the water. During this lesson we looked at the Tasmania’s Underwater Forest.
Some vocabulary for this lesson…
plants, soil, acidity, fertiliser, nutrients, salinity, cool burn
