What is juvenile delinquency
Criminal activity caused by youth
- Eg theft, vandalism, assault
- includes anti social behaviour
What are the two types of delinquency
Expressive - excitement main motivating factor
Instrumental - financial gain main motivating factor

-Skinheads reflect values of ordinary people in UK
- Only racist because racism was not deviant in late 1960s
- Delinquent behaviour magnified

Cohen argues delinquency is a collective response
-delinquents join together to express discontent, reason to commit crime
Cohen wanted to focus on non utilitarian crime
-vandalism/joy riding
- since no monetary gain

Boys frustrated since bottom status in society
-reject mainstream culture

- Stated youth may feel resentment if labelled as failures by teachers
- therefore turn to crime to go against those who look down on them
