What does the Universe view display? How can you use this view to scroll the Edit window display?
The Universe view displays a miniature representation of Audio, Midi, and video material on displayed tracks.
Click and Drag on the framed area of the Universe view. The Edit window will scroll in real time to match your movements in the Universe view.
What are the Timeline Selection In/Out Points? How can you adjust a selection using the Timeline Selection In/Out Points?
The start/end of a edit selection.
Click and Drag the blue arrows (red if a track is record-enabled) in the Main Timebase Ruler.
How can you make and Edit selection using the Grabber tool?
Click once on the clip that you want to select. To select multiple clips, Shift-click once on another clip.
Describe two ways to make an Edit selection using the Selector tool.
How can the Selector tool be used to easily select an entire clip?
- Click and drag across the area on the track that you want to select.
- Click once to define a starting point for the selection, and then Shift-click to define an ending point for the selection.
Double clicking with the Selector tool will select and entire clip, Triple clicking will select the ENTIRE Track Playlist.
How can you make a selection across adjacent tracks using the Selector tool? How can you extend a selection to a nonadjacent track?
Click and drag on the track vertically.
With the Selector tool make a selection across one track, and Shift-clicking on the Track Playlist with the Selector tool.
What does the Link Track and Edit Selection setting do?
Shares/link Edit selections among tracks by selecting or deselecting the tracks themselves.
How does the Tab key affect the cursor position when working in a track?
How does this behavior change when the Tab to Transients button is active in the Edit window?
Pressing Tab key will take us to a clip boundary.
Pressing Tab key when the Tab to Transients button is active in the Edit window will take us to the next nearest transients within the clip.
How can the track height be adjusted for a track? How can all tracks be set to the same height?
- Click the amplitude scale area (on the right side of the Track dB meter)
- Click directly on the Track Options Menu (arrow facing downwards on top left of track)
Hold Option while selecting the desired height on any track.
Describe three ways to change the order of tracks in Pro Tools.
- In the Edit window, click on the track nameplate and drag the track above or below other tracks in the session.
- In the Mix window, click on the track nameplate to the left or right of other tracks.
- In the Clip list, click on the track name and drag it to a higher or lower position in the list.
Describe the button in the Edit window that activates Zoom Toggle.
What does the Zoom Toggle button do?
Located beneath the Zoomer tool in the toolbar area.
Use the Zoom toggle button to toggle the view between the current zoom state and a preset/predefined zoom state.
What is the function of the buttons numbered 1 through 5 beneath the Zoom buttons?
To recall zoom presets.
What are the two main types of memory locations provided in Pro Tools?
How many memory locations can you add to a session?
Markers and Selections.
Up to 999 memory locations.
How can you add a marker at the current cursor location? How can you add markers on the fly during playback?
Start playback (or record) from the desired starting position, click Add Marker/Memory Location button (plus sign) at the head of the Markers Ruler, and the New Memory Location dialog box will appear.
Add marker at the current cursor location by pressing ENTER on the numeric keypad.
Describe three ways to recall a memory location.
- On the numeric pad, type a Period + number and another Period
- In the Memory location window, click the entry for the desired marker location.
- Click corresponding marker symbol in the Markers ruler
