Lesson 6 energy transfers : bungee jumpers Flashcards
In a bungee jump why will the jumper never return back to its original position
because energy is dissipated as thermal energy
why is energy dissipated as thermal energy
this is due to:
friction with air particles
stretching effects in the bungee rope which is not fully elastic
at the start of a bungee jump all of the energy in the system is a store of what
gpe
as the jumper falls from, energy is transferred from the gpe to store to the
ke store
when the bungee rope just starts to tighten which type of energy store is at its maximum
ke
when the rope is fully extended, how much ke does it have
zero as the jumper is not moving
as the rope is fully extended and the jumper is not moving what has all the energy been transferred to
epe store
after the bungee rope is extended, then what occurs
it recoils
once the bungee rope recoils, what occurs
energy is transferred to the epe store back to the ke store
during the ascent of the bungee rope what occurs
energy transfers of the ke store is transferred back to the gpe store
at the top of the ascent all of the energy is back now into
gpe store
