Lesson 6 - Acids And Metals Flashcards
What is common in these metals: aluminium, brass, bronze, chromium?
They are all solids and they conduct heat
How do we know a gas produced in a reaction is hydrogen?
Both acids and alkalis contain hydrogen, so their products must have it too.
How is salt made?
It is made from a a chemical reaction between metals and acid (alongside hydrogen.
Write a general formula for how salt is made (don’t include specific names just use the words metal and acid)
Acid + metal —> salt + hydrogen
What mostly happens when you add an acid to metals?
It bubbles up (hydrogen bubbles up)
What is an independent variable?
An independent variable is the thing that you change in an experiment
What is a dependent variable?
A dependent variable is the thing that you need to measure in an experiment
What is a control variable?
A control variable is the variable that you keep the same in your experiment
Write out the product for this equation - magnesium + hydrochloric acid?
Magnesium chloride + hydrogen
Write out the product for this equation - zinc + hydrochloric acid?
Zinc chloride + hydrogen
Write out the product for this equation - copper + hydrochloric acid?
Copper chloride + hydrogen
Where does the first part of the salt come from?
It comes from the metal
Where does the second part of the name of the salt come from?
It comes from the acid
Label these from most reactive to least reactive (take a guess): Magnesium, copper, iron, zinc
Magnesium, zinc, iron, copper
