Lesson 6 Flashcards
The primary truth that God has clearly revealed to us about himself in Scripture is that
He is one
The uniform testimony of Scripture is that the three persons of the Godhead exist in
one essence
included in the concept of the unity of God are his numerical unity and His
uniqueness
When we speak of three persons in one essence, we indicate
that God is singular in one sense and plural in another
The constitution of people illustrates quite well that the concept of plurality in unity is also consistent in
God’s existence
Modalism differs from Biblical doctrine of the Trinity because modalism
- Asserts that there is only 1 person who manifests himself in 3 different tones
- Asserts that God alternatively manifests himself as Father, Son, and HS
- Denies that God exists in 3 distinctions in one essence
Godhead 3 in 1 and this word is not in scripture
Trinity
3 eternal distinctions in the one divine essence
Trinity
While illustration may to some degree make the idea of the 3 in 1 easier to understand, they can lead to wrong
conclusions and error
Scriptural evidences that confirm the doctrine of the trinity include
- references Peter and Paul make to each Person of the Godhead in the greetings and conclusions of the Epistels
- Jude’s reference to the three Persons of the Trinity in his warning against apostasy
- The Gospel account of Jesus’ baptism and the Great Commission
Especially linked with God’s existence; it suggests that each Person of the Trinity is essentially God
Yahweh
Speaks to the Lordship and applies equally to each Person of the Trinity
Adonai
State an activity in which the three Persons of the Trinity share
Scripture shows that all three shared in the activity in creation, especially linked with the creation of humans.
Accounts that confirm the Trinity or plurality of the Persons in the Godhead
- Jesus prayed to God the Father - he responded audibly at least once
- Jesus spoke of each person to His disciples when he promised He would send a counselor
- Great commission
- The apostolic benediction recognizes the Trinity
- Christ’s baptism
God is in absolute control
