Lesson 5.1 - Word Flashcards
Documents nowadays are more secured as compared to
documents before that are just stored in files and files of cabinets.
Document files nowadays can be password protected and even
encrypted so that only intended users can read the contents of the
documents.
Security
Before the wide use of word processors, collaborating
on a project could mean several meetings and typewritten notes, a
person to organize everything. Today, workers can now simultaneously
work on an online document like the case of a Google Docs.
Collaborators need not be present in an office since they can
collaborate even on different locations around the world
Collaboration
Documents before are passed around the office in folders,
envelopes or typewritten reports. If these are needed in a different
location, it has to be sent via couriers. Nowadays, documents can just
be saved in a local server and accessed by the entire office. It can be
emailed and is received by the client on the same day in just a matter
of seconds. Voluminous documents can now just be saved in a tiny
flash drive, thus, easier to carry or hand over to a colleague in the office
Portability
MS Word has been used by many but it is a proprietary software.
It is expensive but there are free and open source online word
processors. These documents can be saved in a native Word format
and thus can be easily opened as well. Thus, there is no need to lay out
cash for the latest versions of a proprietary software like MS Word
