What are the three degrees of waste?
Class 1- Low risk
Class 2- moderate risk
Class 3 - High risk
What are examples of class 1 waste’s?
bandages, wheelchairs, and tongue depressors
What are examples of Class 2 waste?
catheters, needles, and contact lenses
What are examples of class three waste?
pacemakers, orthopedic implants, and coronary stents
Define medical waste
any waste that needs to be disposed from a healthcare environment
What are the 7 classesifications of medical waste?
Infectious, pathological, sharp, Chemical, Cytotoxic, Radioactive, and non-hazardous
Define infectious waste?
waste that contains infection transmitted from patient
What is pathological waste?
Any kind of waste that comes from a humans or animals body (includes tissues , fluids, body parts, and organs)
Define sharp waste
needles, syringes, disposable scalpels and blades
What is chemical waste?
Any chemical that is no longer needed in the healthcare environment
Define cytotoxic waste
Substances that contains genotoxic properties
Define radioactive waste
substances contaminated by radionuclides
What are non-hazardous or general waste?
waste that does not pose any threat
What waste is placed in the black bag?
cytotoxic
