Communication is used to regulate or control the pace and flow
of conversations or the speaking of a participant so that
interruptions and awkward silences between the speaker and the
addressee are avoided. Both verbal and nonverbal cues are used
to help achieve this purpose.

Communication may be used for the purpose of motivating
oneself and others in various situations.
It is important because:
a. it increases productivity; and
b. it empowers individuals.
Ways to motivate others:
a. Walk the talk.
b. Listen actively.
c. Make a person feel that he or she makes a difference.
d. Communicate clearly and with compassion.
Three ways to look into how motivation works:
a. Needs
b. Behavior
c. Reward
You provide information to others in various speech situations,
such as when delivering an informative speech, when someone
asks for directions, and when getting to know someone.
Information
Tips when giving information:
a. Maintain eye contact and speak clearly.
b. Used variations in speech.
c. Focus on the needed information.
Tips when receiving/obtaining information:
a. Note down important information.
b. Ask the right questions.
c. Ask for clarification and verification.
Emotions help humans communicate their ideas and feelings
toward certain situations. It can vary from time to time depending
on the situation, the participants, and even the environment in
which the communication occurs. It can be conveyed verbally and
nonverbally.
