The laws teach men.
πιστεύομεν τοῖς τῶν φίλων λόγοις.
We trust the words of friends.
τοὺς φίλους πείθει πιστεύειν τοῖς νόμοις.
He persuades the friends to trust the laws.
ἡ ἐπιθυμία ἡδονῶν πολλάκις ἀνθρώπους εἰς ἀδικίαν ἂγει.

Bad friends bear bad fruit.

νομίζουσιν οἱ Ἀθηναῖοι τὸν θάνατον εἶναι καὶ ὓπνον.
The Athenians think the dead are merely sleeping.
τοὐς νόμους οἱ Ἀθηναῖοι εἰς λίθους γράφουσιν.
The Athenians write the laws on stones.
οὐκ ἒφασαν τὸν θάνατον κακὸν εἶναι ἀνθρώποις.
They did not say that death is bad for men.
νομίζουσιν οἱ ἂνθρωποι καλὸν εἶναι ἀγαθοὺς φίλους ἒχειν.
Men think it is beautiful to have good friends.
