Q

What does the skeletal system provide?

A

The skeletal system provides the shape and form for the body in addition to supporting, protecting, allowing bodily movement, producing blood for the body and storing minerals.

Its 206 bones form a rigid framework to which the softer tissues and organs of the body are attached.

Q

Postural abnormalities

Postural problems can cause the appearance of figure problems and include what?

A

1) Round shoulders – shoulder joints are curved forward

2) Forward head tilt – abnormal curvature of the neck where head tilts forward

3) Anterior pelvic tilt – top of pelvic area tilts forward causing gluteal mass to protrude

4) Abducted scapula – curved shoulder blades away from mid-line of the body (spine)

Q

What Postural abnormality is shown?

A

Kyphoses

Kyphosis is a spinal disorder in which an excessive curve of the spine results in an abnormal rounding of the upper back. Kyphosis can be painful, cause significant spinal deformity, and lead to breathing problems.

Q

What Postural abnormality is shown?

A

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a lateral (sideways) deviation of the spine caused by congenital or acquired abnormalities of the vertebrae, muscles, and/or nerves. The spine of an individual with scoliosis may look more like an “S” or a “C”, rather than a straight line.

Q

What Postural abnormality is shown?

A

Lordosis

Lordosis is the inward curvature of the spine. Some lordosis in the lumbar and cervical regions of the spine is normal. Exaggerated lordosis may occur in adolescence - possibly as a result of faulty posture, or due to disease affecting the vertebrae and spinal muscles.
