Lesson 4 Terms - Anatomy and Physiology of Articulation, Resonation, and Deglutition Flashcards
articulation
The process of bringing the mobile and immobile articulators into contact for the purpose os shaping the sounds for speech.
vocal tract
The oral cavity, the pharynx, and the naval cavity.
deciduous (shedding) teeth
The primary set of teeth.
Successional teeth
Teeth in the mature dental arch that replaces corresponding teeth of the deciduous arch.
occlusion
Closing.
Class I occlusion relationship (neutroclusion)
The normal occlusion relationship characterized by the maxillary and mandibular molar relationship in which the maxillary first molar is retracted one-half tooth relative to the mandibular first molar.
overjet
Condition of normal dentition in which the upper incisors project beyond the lower incisors.
neutroclusion (Class I occlusion relationship)
The normal occlusion relationship characterized by the maxillary and mandibular molar relationship in which the maxillary first molar is retracted one-half tooth relative to the mandibular first molar.
Class II malocclusion
The occlusal relationship characterized by the maxillary and mandibular molar relationship in which the maxillary first molar is retracted at least one tooth relative to the mandibular first molar.
Class III malocclusion
The occlusal relationship characterized by the maxillary and mandibular molar relationship in which the maxillary first molar is advanced at least one tooth relative to the mandibular first molar.
torsiversion
Twisted on the long axis.
labioversion
Tilted toward the lip.
linguaversion
Tilted toward the tongue.
buccoversion
Tilted toward the cheek.
infraversion
Inadequate eruption relative to the other teeth in the arch.
