- Sys: less than 90/
- Dia: less than 60
Normal
- Sys: 90/ - 120/
- Dia: 60 to 80
Prehypertensive
- Sys: 121/ to 140/
- Dia: 81 to 90
Hypertensive
- Sys: greater than 140/
- Dia: greater than 90
Diabetes Mellitus
- DM
- when glucose or sugar content in blood is too high
Type I Diabetes
- can only be Insulin Dependent DM (IDDM)
- only 5% of DM patients have this
- treated only with insulin
Type II Diabetes
- Insulin resistance
- may be Insulin Dependent (IDDM) or Non-Insulin Dependent DM (NIDDM)
- 95% of DM patients
High Cholesterol
- Hyperlipidemia
- HLD
Heart Disease
- CAD
- Coronary Artery Disease
Heart Cath
- Cardiac catheterization (diagnoses CAD)
Balloon
- Angioplasty –> PMHx CAD
Stents
- Coronary Stents –> PMHx CAD
Heart Bypass
- Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) –> PMHx CAD
Strep Pharyngitis
- aka throat inflammation or infection
Ear Infection
-Otitis Media
DDD
- Bulging Discs
- Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
Dysuria
- pain or burning with urination
Hematuria
- blood in the urine
Pyelonephritis
- infection of the kidney that causes inflammation and pain
- happens with UTI does not resolve
Ectopic Pregnancy
- egg attaches to outside uterus (most likely fallopian tube) so pregnancy cannot develop or survive
Torsions
- a knot forming in ovaries or testes cutting off blood supply
Cellulitis
- cells of skin becoming infected which causes redness, inflammation, warmth, and pain
Induration
- how to find cellulitis
- firm quality to skin
Abscess
- bacterial infection with skin that has pus accumulation
- has redness, warmth, and induration
- diff from cellulitis due to fluctuant
Fluctuance
- there is fluid collection most likely pus
Incision and Drainage
- I&D
- manages abscess
- open and drain pus and fill with gauze
C. Diff Colitis
- opportunistic bacteria that causes diarrhea (stool therapy)
Gastroenteritis
- Vomiting and diarrhea
- aka GI bug so viral or bacterial
Crohn’s Disease
- Immune disorder causing diarrhea and abdominal pain
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Chronically sensitive bowels so prone to diarrhea
Gastritis
- Irritated stomach with vomiting
- “Stomach ache”
Pericarditis
- Inflammation of sac surrounding the heart causing CP
Pleurisy
- Inflammation of sac surrounding lungs causing pleuritic CP
Costochondritis
-Irritation of ribs causing CP which get worse by pressing on sternum
Chest Wall Pain
- Irritation of chest wall causing pain with palpation of the chest
Pleural Effusion
-Fluid collecting around the lungs causing SOB or CP
