Lesson 38: Generation and Transmission Flashcards
The flow of electrical energy from the power plant to our houses happens through a system called what?
Power Distribution Grid
This refers to the final stage of the electrical grid which distributes electricity to homes, industry, and other end users.
Power Distribution Grid
Electricity generation starts here.
Power Plant
This usually occurs in three very large wires. The third wire is often the ground wire which attracts lightning.
Transmission Substation
Large transformers convert this voltage to extremely high voltages for long distances transmission on transmission grid.
Transmission Substation
High voltages are stepped-down in here. The place where transmission to distribution of electricity in power substations occurs.
Distribution Grid
The electricity flows from the transformer to the distribution bus. The bus distributes the power to two separate distribution.
Distribution Bus
These banks regulate the voltage to prevent under voltage or over voltage conditions.
Regulator Banks
Tap wires connected from regulatory banks to the transformer drums to the house.
Taps
This reduces the voltages to 240 volts which is the normal voltage in our houses.
Transformer Drums
This is the large-scale movement of electricity at high voltage levels from a power plant to a substation.
Power Transmission
This is the conversion of high voltage electricity at substations to lower voltages that can be distributed and used by private, public, and industrial customers.
Power Distribution
This results from the transition from the active energy to reactive energy on distribution network during the supply process.
Technical Loss
These are very real and significant problems for Utility Companies.
Commercial Loss
