Lesson 37: Geothermal Power Plants Flashcards
This is the Earth’s internal heat which is generated from radioactive decay and continual heat loss from Earth’s formation.
Geothermal Ennergy
The difference in temperature between the core of Earth and its surface.
Geothermal Gradient
These things use steam which is produced from reservoirs of hot water found several miles below the Earth’s surface.
Geothermal Power Plants
These draw from underground resources of steam.
Dry Steam Power Plants
This uses hydrothermal fluidss that are already mostly steam, which is a relatively rare natural occurrence.
Dry Steam Power Plants
This uses geothermal reservoirs of water with temperature greater than 360 degrees F.
Flash Steam Power Plants
This operates on water at lower temperatures of about 225°-360°F (107°-182°C).
Binary Cycle Power Plants
This is usually an organic compound with a low boiling point which is vaporized in a heat exchanger and is used to turn a turbine.
