Define nutrient.
A substance in food that provides energy or helps form body tissues and that is necessary for life and growth.
Define nutrition.
The science or study of food and the ways in which the body uses food.
Define diet.
The type and amount if food that a person eats.
Define overweight.
Heavy for ones height.
Define obesity.
The state of having a significant amount of excess body fat; the state of weighing more than 20% above ones recommended body weight.
Define eating disorder.
A disease in which a person has an unhealthy concern for his or her body weight and shape.
Define physical fitness.
The ability to perform daily physical activities without becoming short of breath, sore, or overly tired.
What are the six classes of nutrients?
Carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, water, fats.
What are carbohydrates?
Simple carbohydrates: give you quick energy (table sugar and honey)
Complex carbohydrates: give you long-lasting energy (bread and grain products) fiber is a complex carbohydrate that aids digestion (fiber is found in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables)
