Q

Considering pollution:

What is Organic material?

A

Sewage (untreated)
→ increased 02 demand
→ If demand > 02 from the atmosphere - aerobic organisms die off

Q

Considering pollution:

What are eutrophic substances?

A

Three water body categories based on ability to support autotrophic growth, namely:

  1. Oligotrophic
    – low N+P levels (cannot support high autotrophic population)
  2. Mesotrophic – moderate N+P concentrations
  3. Eutrophic – high N+P concentrations high algae growth, appears green anaerobic conditions when algae die off

Sewage & agriculture largest contributors
