Lesson 2: Intro to A & P Flashcards
Skeletal muscle fibers
form the skeletal muscles of the body
cardiac muscle fibers
form the muscle of the heart allowing it to beat (myocardial muscle)
smooth muscle fibers
form smooth muscle of the body typically seen in organs and blood vessels
tendons
attach muscles to bones
origin
bone attachment point closest to the body at the immovable end
insertion
bone attachment point at the moveable end
Cervical vertebrae (C1-C7)
first seven vertebrae that protect the cervical spinal nerves of the neck
Thoracic vertebrae (T1-T12)
12 vertebrae that protect the spinal nerves of the thorax
Lumbar vertebrae (L1-L5)
5 vertebrae that protect the spinal nerves of the lumbar
sacrum
triangular bony structure of the lower back that curves and is composed of 5 vertebrae fused together
Fibrous joints
hold bones tightly together (like sutures)
cartilaginous joints
allow slight movements and connect bones with cartilage (
synovial joints
two bones connect to allow wide range of motion
ex: ball and socket joints, hinge joints
ligaments
connect one bone to another bone or join bone to cartilage
bursa
fibrous sac that acts as cushion to ease movement in areas of friction
