Lesson 2: Eukaryotic Cells & Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
Pro’ =
NO membrane-bound organelles, nucleus
Eu’ =
DO have membrane-bound organelles, nucleus
Prokaryotic cells can be divided into:
2 distinct domains
Archaebacteria
Found in extreme environments, e.g. extremophiles
Eubacteria
Traditional bacteria e.g. E. Coli, S. aureus
Features of a prokaryotic cell:
Single-celled, heterotrophs/chemotrophs/photosynthetic autotrophs, no nucleus, DNA stored in a plasmid, semi-rigid cell wall, no membrane-bound organelles
Plasmid
DNA stored in a single circular chromosome
Features of a eukaryotic cell
Single-celled or multicellular, more complex, specialised organelles which facilitate biochemical reactions, DNA strands contained within nucleus, membrane-bound organelles
