The physical parts of the computer, including processor and memory chips, input/output devices, tapes, disks, modems, cable, etc.
Hardware
It contains the major components of the computer and helps protect them.
Computer case
It is used primarily to connect printers to the computer.
Parallel port (Female DB-25)
It is used primarily to connect external modems, mice, and miscellaneous devices.
Serial port (Male DB-9)
It is used to connect joysticks to the computer. It can also be identified as a MIDI port.
Game port (Female DB-9)
It is used to connect a mouse.
PS/2 Mouse Port or Keyboard port (mini-DIN 6)
It is used to connect VGA and Super VGA monitors to the computer.
VGA port (Female DB-15)
It is used for an analog video signal that connects to TVs, VCRs, and video cameras.
S-Video port (mini-DIN 4)
It is used to connect SCSI printers, CD ROMs, scanners, and hard drives.
SCSI port (50-pin centronics)
It is used to connect external SCSI printers, CD-ROMs, scanners, and hard drives.
SCSI port (VHDCI connector)
Used to connect digital display devices.
DVI Interface (DVI-I socket)
It is typically used to connect to an Ethernet network cable.
Ethernet port (RJ-45 Connector)
It is used to connect to the telephone and the telephone cable.
Phone Jack Modem Port (RJ-11 Connector)
Used to connect PC peripherals, including mice, keyboards, printers, modems, and external disk drives.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) port (Type A USB port)
Where you install the CPU.
CPU socket
Where you install a graphic card.
PCIe Expansion Slot
Where you install a M.2 SSD.
M.2 Slot
These are connectors where you plug in your computer case’s fans.
Fan headers
These connectors are to plug in your case’s front panel features such as the power-on and reset buttons, audio ports (for headphones or a mic), and USB ports.
Front panel headers
These are used when connecting your power supply cables, and are needed to power the CPU and the motherboard itself.
