Why were the Native Americans still upset at the British after the French and Indian War ended?

A

Since Britain claimed the Ohio River Valley, a very valuable area of land, many colonists traveled/settled there. This upset the Native Americans because the colonists were rude to them (unlike the French). This caused several fights/clashes between the colonists and the Native Americans

Who was Pontiac and what did he do?

A

Pontiac was a Native American Chief who sort of became the leader of attacking the British. He raided several British forts, and generally endangered the safety of the colonists. He was the reason the Proclamation of 1763 was made.

A

A Proclamation stating that colonists could not settle west past the crest of the Appalachian Mountains.

A

It was made to keep the colonists safe due to arising conflicts with the Native Americans

Why were the colonists angry about the Proclamation?

A

The colonists felt that they had a right to that land, and that the British government should not control where they settled. Additionally, troops were sent to the colonies to enforce the Proclamation, which resulted in the colonists having to pay more/

A

Winning the French and Indian War caused Britain to be in debt since Britain spent all of its money trying to win the war.

A

They believed it was unjust for them to be taxed by the Parliament when they had no say in it/no representatives in it. This sparked the protest slogan “No taxation without representation”.

A

The colonists were harassing the British soldiers

A

The British soldiers accidentally fired at the colonists after they harassed them, and it ended up with 5 colonists dead.

A

They were extremely upset and took it as an opportunity to promote hatred against the British. However, they went a little overboard, and the colonists exaggerated many of the details while spreading the news.
