What role do dreams play in Jesus’ birth story?
Both Joseph and the magi are warned about Herod’s plot to kill Jesus via dreams; also used dreams to tell Joseph when it was safe to return to Israel, and to settle in Galilee instead of Judea
What is the Mishnah that Jesus would have studied?
traditional law
Why was Jesus baptized?
Submitting to the law which required priests to wash at the laver before officiating (since this was initiation into the ministry); being revealed as the Messiah
Explain the voice from heaven at Jesus’ baptism.
God can speak in different places at the same time; the Father was in the Son and in Heaven
Define the word “temptation” and explain why the Lord was tempted.
a test of character/being tried with the purpose of good or evil; this was a test of Jesus’ character and a way by which Jesus acted as our example
What five things take place in fasting and prayer?
1.) A relationship w/ God is developed
2.) Flesh is crucified and brought under discipline
3.) Nature of Christ is formed within us
4.) Anointing is imparted
5.) Power w/ God and man is developed
Define the word “manifest” and apply that definition to the Lord Jesus. Use scripture references that include the word.
“to reveal or exhibit”; Jesus was God revealed in human form (1 Timothy 3:16)
Why did Jesus come into the world?
To set men free from the powers of darkness and the course of sin in man’s life
What significant elements testify to the divine nature and mandate of Jesus Christ?
The testimony of prophecy, the testimony of the first disciples, the testimony of miracles
Can a person receive miraculous intervention though his motives are wrong?
