Document containing laws —> set of rules
What is a regulation?
Specific rules that support another legislation
What is the difference between act and regulation?
Act may require workers to use correct procedures, but details of these prescribed procedures is found d regulations
What is the occupational health and safety act?
Set of rules, ensuring workers to use equipment/protective devices or clothing that workers employer requires to be used or worn
What is the industrial establishment regulation?
How to comply with the acts, worker exposed to hazard of eye injury shall wear eye protection appropriate in the circumstances
What are the OHS regulation?
- Safety regulations - govern various types of workplaces
- Designated substances - 11 agents, e.g. known carcinogens
- General - includes occupational exposure limits for chemicals, WHIMIS
- Hazardous physical agents - x rays
- Regulations that directly affect/ impact the act
What are written procedures?
Details safe and Healthy ways to perform job tasks
What are standards?
Operational principle, criterion, or requirement pertaining to work conditions, methods, equipment or materials in the workplace
Developed by government, professional organization and technical/trade associations
What are codes?
Set of standards, rules, or regulations relating to a specific area

What is an employer?
Person who employs one or more workers for services of an individual, who performs work or supplies services
What are the duties of an employer?
Equipment, materials and protective devices are provided
Equipment, materials and protective devices provided by employer are maintained in good condition

What are the penalties if they do not follow the regulations?
If they do not follow the acts or regulations, order or requirement of inspector, offer of the minister, will get a fine of more than $500,000 or to imprisonment for a term
What are the steps that supervisors do for prevention?
Prevention must be in the workplace, local knowledge and history of workplace and work practices is crucial to accident prevention
Ontario legislation says everyone can cause accidents, everyone should be involved in preventing them
